Garlic Benefits

The benefits of garlic have been documented for thousands of years. A recent papyrus shows that even the Egyptians from 1500 BC. C. knew his great healing powers. In 1858 Louis Pasteur made an experiment in which he found that raw garlic juice was as effective at killing bacteria as penicillin. Here in the West, the smell didn’t make us used to garlic as easily as other cultures, but in the 19th century we finally became this beautiful lamp.

Medicinal Properties: Garlic is an antibiotic that kills at least 23 types of bacteria, including Staphylococcus and Salmonella. It is also antifungal, fights carcinogens, lowers cholesterol, heart disease and cancer, regulates blood sugar levels, helps detoxify the liver, lowers blood pressure, fights colds and flu, boosts immunity and can even help ward off the mosquitoes.

Most of the benefits of garlic are due to the chemical called “allicin”, which is also responsible for the odor. Alicin has been documented to kill at least 23 species of bacteria, including Staphylococcus and Salmonella. Allicin is not present throughout the tooth, but occurs when the tooth is ground, chewed, minced or otherwise treated. Once warmed, garlic also helps lower cholesterol, although many benefits of antibiotics are lost.

One of the best benefits of garlic is not the antioxidant content but the huge boost it gives your body to produce its own antioxidant due to its high selenium content.

Preparation and use: To keep the benefits of garlic intact, it is best to include them as they are. However, this can be difficult for many people because of its power. Here are some simple ways to include raw garlic in your diet:

Add the chopped raw garlic to freshly cooked but still hot food. This will warm the garlic a little and mix the flavors, but essentially keep it raw.
Cut the garlic with fresh parsley and use it as an accompaniment to chips, baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, buttered toast, peppers, enchiladas, etc.
Prepare homemade hummus with fresh garlic cloves.
Mix fresh chopped garlic in mayonnaise and use it to spread the rolls.
Make a fresh garlic and tomato sauce and use generously with tortilla chips or as a dish for other Mexican dishes.
